Broadcast 8/21/09 – KVCR host Roger Bowman asked questions of Lisa Jarman, program manager for the homeownership department of the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County, and Jesse limon, first-time home buyer program manager at the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County. Together they talked about foreclosure prevention and soft landings, i.e. how to make the best of losing one’s home, and about how to purchase another home in the future. Even with a foreclosure on your record, you qualify as a first-time home buyer for Federal program assistance after you’ve rented for a mere 3 years.

The Center for Litigation and Consumer Real Estate Education (CLCREE) is a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization that provides free legal services to alleged victims of predatory lending and consumer real estate issues.

We assist in real estate related consumer complaints and, when warranted, provide free expert testimony and discovery assistance for possible future legal action.

Broadcast 7/31/09 – KVCR host Roger Bowman had guests Alan Sims of the Center for Litigation and Consumer Real Estate Education (CLCREE), a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization that provides free legal services to victims of predatory lending and consumer real estate issues, and law student James Cuzzolini, a volunteer with CLCREE. Both answered questions about loan modification obstacles many viewers are encountering as well as the questionable techniques many loan brokers and appraisers used when writing loans during the bubble, and what people can do if theirs was intentionally inaccurate.

Broadcast 8/7/09 – KVCR had guests Rod Tawasha, associate vice president and home preservation manager for Chase bank, and Larry Sharp, president & CEO of Arrowhead Credit Union, in the studio to answer host Roger Bowman’s questions about their banks’ responses to the mortgage crisis. The discussion included the foreclosure process, short sales, deeds in lieu, principle reduction, forbearances, and other means of helping home owners retain their homes or exit gracefully. They candidly discussed which options were viable and which were not widely offered. Additionally, Chase discussed their 28 regional home ownership centers in which a distressed owner can obtain and appointment and meet with a loan modification advisor for Chase, who becomes that person’s primary point of contact during the modification and/or foreclosure process — a real person with a desk, a direct extension and email address.

The homeless are very different than you and I. At least that’s what a lot of us thought until the Mortgage Crisis shook up stable housing situations for thousands in the Inland Empire and Orange County. Anthea Raymond visited the Circle of Hope shelter in Corona this week. She met a woman there named Kathleen Krauss and filed this sound portrait.

Inland Empire Foreclosure Prevention Seminars

The Inland Empire Economic Recovery Corporation administers free foreclosure prevention seminars that feature a HUD-approved housing counselor who speaks on default avoidance, renegotiation, short sale, forebearances, and other topics of interest to struggling homeowners. Additionally, HUD counselors and/or bank representatives will meet with attendees to discuss their specific circumstances and inform them whether they qualify for a renegotiation to avoid a foreclosure.

These seminars are completely free. No donation required. No paid follow-on services are sought.

You will need to bring items to the seminar, including a HUD registration form, available at the registration link above, and the following (these aren’t very difficult to compile and will ensure you receive accurate information from those donating their time to provide you with realistic advice):

Information about the monthly gross (before tax) income of your household, including recent pay stubs if you receive them or documentation of income you receive from other sources.
Your most recent income tax return.
Information about your savings and other assets
Information about your first mortgage, such as your monthly mortgage statement.
Information about any second mortgage or home equity line of credit on the house.
Account balances and minimum monthly payments due on all of your credit cards.
Account balances and monthly payments on all your other debts such as student loans and car loans.
A letter describing any circumstances that caused your income to be reduced or expenses to be increased (job loss, divorce, illness, etc.) if applicable.
