Broadcast 6/19/09 – KVCR had Melinda Opperman, the vice president of community outreach for Springboard.org, a local non-profit organization dedicated to helping people get financially on-track and become viable and self-sufficient, in studio to answer questions from host Roger Bowman and from viewers. In response to the crisis, Springboard provides on-staff HUD counselors who help people determine if they qualify for loan modifications or other forms of assistance to help them keep their home. Also in the studio was Ryan Escamilla-Woods, a homeownership retention specialist with another local non-profit, Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services. He is very fluent in modifications, foreclosure, and short sale processes, and the program was fortunate to have these two excellent guests available to take your calls.

I am Disabled Veteran, I purchase my home in 2004 and pay my monthly mortgage payments to Califoria Department of Veterans Affairs (CAL VET).
I am in direct communication with my lender and I have requested a Loan Mod.
My lender said that: my mortgage is backed by State Bonds of California and can not modifiy my loan, because it would be a “gift” to me. Is this true?
I understand that the State of California has it’s budget problems; however, it would be benifical to me and the State to, for example, reduce the monthly interest rate to 2%, extend the load from 30 years to 40 years.
Questions: Is there any way CAL VET and help me out and modifiy my load.
Thank you so much
